Obituary

David Cashion Green, 64, of Columbia, died unexpectedly Monday, January 21, 2019. Born March 1, 1954 he was a son of the late David Earl Green and Chloe Ann Green.
David served in the US Air Force for 6 years and as a minister in the United Methodist Church, SC Conference for 20 years. His latest work was as a sales associate with Legal Shield for 20 years.

David had a mischievous grin as you always wondered what he was up to or what he was thinking. He often appeared to be very stoic but was very tenderhearted. He had a soft heart for the person who had unspoken needs which he was always able to discern and remedied in a quiet obscure way. He played the guitar and over the years delivered sermons and concerts in spoken and musical forms. David was a loving husband who treated Toni like his princess and was always very protective. He adored his daughter, Jenifer and his grandchildren, James and Elizabeth. Being the older brother, he always made sure his sisters, Cecilia and Susie had everything they needed. Growing up around two sisters explains his gift of communicating and nurturing the women in his life. David's greatest joy has been the time working with his colleagues at Legal Shield. He was a nurturer and cared for his wife's family as much as he did his own.

David is survived by his wife of 18 years, Joy A. "Toni" Hollingsworth; daughter, Jenifer R. Maynard (Scott); grandchildren, James and Elizabeth Maynard; sisters, Cecelia White (Gary) and Susie Allen (David); his "favorite mother-in-law", Patricia E. Hollingsworth; dear friends, John and Elizabeth Gardner, Charles Shipman and Debra Quilling Smith; numerous nieces and nephews; and his four legged babies, Delilah and Fiona. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Henry M. Hollingsworth.

A service will be held 1 o'clock, Thursday, January 24th at Rehoboth United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock, Wednesday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 6911 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC 29223 or to College Place United Methodist Church, 4801 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC 29203.
