David Bruce Horton, 68, of Columbia, SC, died on Monday, December 29, 2025. Born on April 23, 1957, in Columbia, he was a son of the late Jack VanLandingham Horton and Maurine Campbell Horton.
He was a graduate of A.C Flora High School and later earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from The University of South Carolina. David was the owner and operator of Crown Pawn Shop for many years. He was an avid golfer, traveling around the country to play new courses. He was a lover of Gamecock football and was known to occasionally enjoy a good bourbon and ginger ale. David's fondest memories included spending time at his house on Lake Murray and family beach trips. He adored his daughters and grandchildren and always made it a priority to attend all their dance and sporting events throughout the years.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sheryl Berry Horton; daughters, Lauren Horton Cargile (Nick) of Columbia and Ashley Horton Johnson (Blake) of Columbia; grandchildren, Ava Grace Cargile, Annie Cargile, and Banks Johnson. He also leaves behind his brothers, Van Horton (Becky) of Chapin, Bobby Horton of Columbia, and Preston Horton (Penny) of Red Bank, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Horton.
The funeral service for Mr. Horton will be held at 12 o'clock, Saturday, January 3rd, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road Columbia, South Carolina.
The family will receive guests prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 11 o'clock.
