David Oscar Bell, passed away on August 25, 2018 at his home in Columbia, SC. David was born in Davenport, Iowa to Marion and Mildred Bell on May 1, 1954. He was the 4th of eight children. David attended Orion High School and went on to serve in the United States Air Force.
David married E. Janel Bell on July 2, 1977 in Rock Island, Illinois and had two children, Brittany June and Lindsey Marie.
David had an incredible work ethic and spent his career as a machinist for various large corporations such as John Deere, Mack Truck, and spent 25 years at Square D/Schneider Electric before his retirement. David was an avid Gamecock fan (and pretended to be a Tiger fan for his oldest daughter.) He loved planes and trains and looking for shark teeth on the beach. He loved his family and especially loved being around his grandchildren. He enjoyed volunteering at his church and dedicated much time and effort to his Explorers Troop.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry Bell; and mother-in-law, Dorothy Ward Suss. He is survived by his wife, Janel; his daughters, Brittany Bell Giametta (Joe) of Tega Cay, SC and Lindsey Bell Keller (Wesley) of Spartanburg, SC; six beautiful grandchildren, Paul, Maggie, Catherine Giametta and Hayden, Henry, and Adelyn Keller; beloved sister, Katharine Trackwell (Daryl) of Brunswick, GA; and cherished brother, John Bell (Catherine) of Stafford, VA; Peggy (Dale) Wilson, Janice (Garry) Neels, Marion Cooper, Donald Bell; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
A service to celebrate David's life will be held at his church home of more than 30 years, Bethel United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 1, at 11:00 am with a visitation to be held immediately following the service. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
