Obituary

David Nathan Poole, of Columbia, SC, passed away on June 1st, 2024. Born in Charleston, SC, on March 16, 1956, he was the son of the late James David and Octama Lively Poole.

He was a graduate of Clemson University; where he played as a "Tiger" for both the football and basketball teams; and of The University of South Carolina, where he received a Master's Degree. Later he returned to teach a CFP certification class for USC's Darla Moore School of Business.

In addition to his wife, Leah, his survivors include his children, Natalie Evans (Matt), Nathan Poole (Lydia), Meredith Higgins (Andrew); grandchildren, Makenzie Evans, Rylie Evans, Tyler Evans, Cora Poole, Vievee Poole, Hewitt David Higgins, Margot Higgins; and sister, Pamela Poole Lively Machino; as well as many beloved Lively cousins, nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

David had a widespread vocational impact throughout the community of his hometown, first as a Geography teacher at Spring Valley High School, where he coached basketball and tennis, and later as the founder and owner of Brightworks, one of the state's leading financial planning firms. Most important to David was his relational and spiritual impact in his community. David was a founding member and elder of Blythewood Presbyterian Church, an avid supporter of Young Life (an organization that played a pivotal role in his own walk with Christ), and in general, sought to "Be the Church" as opposed to "Going to Church." Those who knew him can attest to his spirit-filled life and his devotion to Christ in all things.

Lastly, David was a dedicated husband and father who took great pride and delight in raising his children with his wife Leah, and in his last years, being the playful and silly "Diddy" to his grandchildren. He touched a great many lives in a multitude of ways but was consistently his inimitable self: a man full of God's spirit and love, generous with his time, affection, and wisdom.

The memorial service for David will be held on Saturday, June 15th, at 10:30 o'clock at the pavilion of Blythewood Presbyterian Church: 441 Rimer Pond Road, Blythewood, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9 o'clock in the church atrium.
