David Glenn Vernon, 80, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023. Born on July 5, 1942, in Bellefontaine, Ohio. He was the son of the late Thelma Holmes Vernon and Edwin Vernon.

David was the loving husband of 50 years to Georgia Bencivengo Vernon. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf, an occasional cigar, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. David was a member of the Woodlands Country Club for over 30 years. He is fondly remembered for his great sense of humor.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Carla Vernon Kea, Dominic Vernon (Jennifer), and Joseph Vernon; grandchildren, Imri Bruck Vernon, Rachel Vernon Long (Ryan), Jacob Douglas Kea, Matthew Vernon, McKenzie Vernon, and Kayla Vernon; great grandchildren, Bryce and Scarlett Long; sister, Joyce Lawrence; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mr. Vernon will be held at 12 o'clock on Thursday, July 6th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
