Mrs. Debra Lyn Easler, 58, of Ridgeway, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025. Born on March 4, 1967, in Okinawa, Japan, she was the cherished daughter of Robert Stephen Nemec and Joyce Ruth Nemec of Sumter, South Carolina.
For 33 years, Debbie shared a beautiful life with her devoted husband, Delano "Terry" Easler. Their country home was a place of warmth and welcome, filled with the laughter and companionship of their many horses, dogs, and cats. Debbie loved the quiet solitude of life in her home surrounded by the woods, where the beauty of wildlife was her constant inspiration. She had a natural talent for art, creating meaningful and intricate pieces in a variety of mediums, each reflecting her creativity and gentle spirit.
Debbie's heart for service shone brightest in her career as an educator. She was the longest-serving faculty member at Spring Valley High School, where she served as a National Board-Certified Teacher and librarian. A proud graduate of the University of South Carolina, she also earned her Master's in Library and Information Science. Debbie's vision helped shape the design of the school's current library, a space that has inspired thousands of students. She was known not only for her deep knowledge and skill but for her kindness, encouragement, and the way she made each student feel seen and valued.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Terry Easler; her parents, Robert and Joyce Nemec; her sisters, Angela Nemec Maizlish and Sheri Nemec Miller; nephews, Steven (Heather) Miller and Joseph Maizlish; niece, Lauren Maizlish; and great-niece, Grace Miller. Her family, friends, colleagues, and students will forever remember her generous heart, creative spirit, and unwavering dedication.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Fairfield County Animal Shelter, 2065 US 321 BYP Winnsboro, SC 29180, a cause dear to Debbie's heart, so her love for animals may continue to make a difference.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 3 until 5 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC 29223. A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced by Shives Funeral Home.
