Obituary

Deliz Maria Roldan, 81, died Monday, February 23, 2015.

Mrs. Roldan was born in Puerto Rico to the late Rafael and Matilde Soto.
She remained there throughout her childhood and college and married Candelario Roldan at the age of 21. Following her military husband, they moved to Tacoma, Washington, Ft. Bragg, and then to Okinawa. Upon returning to the states, Mrs. Roldan and her family resided in Columbia where she remained until her death. She was a wonderful stay-at-home mother to three rambunctious ninos. Active in her church, she was instrumental in creating the Latin ministry program at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. In an effort to maintain her family's Latin heritage, she and her family returned to Puerto Rico each year for months. Many of her fond memories with family and friends were during these visits. Mrs. Roldan was a warm and gracious host and often entertained family and members of the Latin community in her home. These were her fondest memories. She epitomized the phrase, "Mi casa es su casa."

Following the death of her son, Biadin, Mrs. Roldan became very involved in the life of her grandson, Gabriel. She worked in retail for many years as well as teaching Spanish at Harmony School; but most enjoyed working at Hooligan's in Trenholm Plaza with her son, Ivan, for a number of years until her declining health.

Survivors are her sons, Ivan Roldan of Columbia and Luis Roldan of Montclair, NJ; granddaughters, Isabella Roldan and Cristina Roldan; and a grandson, Gabriel Roldan. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Roldan was preceded in death by her son, Biadin Roldan.

The Memorial Mass for Mrs. Roldan will be held 10 o'clock, March 6th at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. The family will greet friends following the service in the Parish Hall. The family suggests that memorials be made to St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 100 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223. The family would like to thank Life Care Center for the wonderful treatment and care of Deliz Roldan.
