Dennis Daye, 90, of Columbia, died on October 5, 2021. Born on March 9, 1931, in Iredell County, NC, he was the son of the late Eugene and Margaret Daye. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Daye.
Dennis earned a Master of Regional Planning degree from UNC at Chapel Hill in 1958. His professional career spanned 42 years with positions in municipal government in Greensboro, NC, and Columbia, SC. He entered the consulting field first with Lyles, Bissett, Carlisle and Wolff and later with Wilbur Smith and Assocs where he retired as Senior VP of WSA.
In 2002 he was inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Certified Planners. In addition to his contributions to the planning profession, he was cited for his mentorship of young planners and his community service.
An active member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Dennis served as an Elder and Deacon along with service among various committees and Sunday School leadership.
Survivors include his two daughters; Diana Abromaitis (David) of The Villages, FL; Pam Wills (Mark) of Augusta, GA; three grandsons, Mark Wills (Anne), Nash Wills, Bradley Abromaitis; and one granddaughter Rachel Marshaus (Luke).
A memorial service will be held 1:00 o'clock, Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, officiated by Dr. Bradley D. Smith. The family will greet friends following the service in the church parlor. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
