Obituary

Diane Carithers Gladney, 66, of Columbia, died Sunday, November 27, 2016. Born to Neila Marveen Parks and Young Hoyt Carithers, Jr., Diane grew up in Athens, GA and attended the University of Georgia. She later worked at Fort Gordon in Augusta where she met her husband of 35 years, Greg Gladney, and became an Army wife, traveling the world with her family. A member of Shandon Baptist Church, Diane loved music, and singing in the choir was her ministry. She thoroughly enjoyed her vocation as a histologist and her hobby as a Certified Master Judge for the South Carolina Barbeque Association. Diane loved people and all living things.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Ryan K. Gladney of Myrtle Beach; and a sister, Gail C. Graves of Gainesville, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral service will be held at 12 o'clock, Friday, December 2nd at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia with interment to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The Reverend Dennis Banks and The Reverend Joe Copeland will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 11 o'clock.
