Diane P. Norris passed away on December 16, 2022. Diane was a native South Carolinian. She was predeceased by her adopted parents, Mary Gwendolyn Norris and John D. Norris. Diane attended Eau Claire High School in Columbia, SC and graduated from Winthrop College (1971). She was devoted to teaching and taught at various schools throughout South Carolina. Additionally, she spent several decades working as a teacher and trainer in the software industry.
With the help of the late Thelma Cox and Nell Eleazer, Diane achieved many of her lifelong goals. Her life was filled with adventures. She traveled the world, often bringing Nell Eleazer (even at age 90) with her. After residing in Atlanta, GA for several decades, she then returned to her home state of South Carolina to care for Nell. During her later years in Columbia, Diane became a steadfast member of the Main Street United Methodist Church, participating on committees and helping with other activities.
As an English teacher, and having no children of her own, Diane devoted endless hours and energy to her students, always encouraging them to work hard. She enjoyed writing stories and was always sharing her funny writings with her friends. Her own life would have made a great tale with many twists and turns. Her hearty laughter and independent spirit will be missed by all who loved her.
A gathering in her memory will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Main Street United Methodist Church, 1830 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or to the Winthrop University Foundation, 701 Oakland Ave, Rock Hill, SC 29733.
