Obituary
Mrs. Diane Barr O'Connor, 72, of Columbia, died Saturday, May 18, 2024. She was born February 13,1952 in Asheville, NC, the daughter of the late Wendell Barr and Dorothy McFarlin Barr.
She was a Registered Nurse with a Diploma in Nursing from Grady Hospital and a BS in Nursing from the Medical college of Georgia. As a School Nurse in Richland One School District, Diane began the "Seeing is Achieving" program which provided eye exams and glasses to underprivileged, middle school students. She was a communicant of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Dennis George O'Connor; daughters Kate Randall (Mark), and Mary Knoell (Frank); granddaughters, Aubrey Randall, Molly Randall, Bailey Randall, Annie Knoell, Sophie Knoell, and Zoe Knoell; and brother, David Barr.
A memorial service for Diane will be held at a later date. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family and will announce further plans.
The family requests that memorials be made in Diane's name to Oliver Gospel Mission, 1100 Taylor St., Columbia, SC 29201.
