Donald Lee Barber, Jr., 68, of Columbia, died on Monday, May 16, 2022. Born in Rantoul, Illinois, on June 25, 1953, he was the eldest son of Donald Lee Barber and Dorles Dillow Barber, brother to Traci Barber-Johnson and Mitchel Charles Barber.
Don Barber attended BYU University. He professed his faith in Jesus Christ and served a full time 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Georgia/South Carolina area from 1973-1975. While serving his mission he met his soon to be wife, Debra Barber. They were married in the Washington, DC Temple and have been married for 45 years. This union was blessed with four children, 8 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He was a licensed builder/contractor with a lifetime of experience and a devotion to hard work.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Greene Barber; his children, Jennifer Nicole Barber, Joshua Lawrence Barber, Ryan Mitchell Barber, and Joel Christopher Barber; his grandchildren, Rivers Dooley, Trevor Watts, Pearce Watts, Hampton Watts, Carson Watts, Baylee Barber, Aiden Barber, and Breccan Barber. He is also survived by his parents, sister and brother.
The family will receive friends prior to the service in the Relief Society room of the church beginning at 10am. The funeral service for Mr. Barber will be held at 11:30am, Saturday, May 21st 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Summit Ward, 2350 White Pine Road, Columbia, SC 29223. Burial will follow in Centerville Cemetery, Ridgeway, SC. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
