Dr. Donald Elery Spotts, 91, of Columbia, SC, and formerly of Hillsdale, MI, died Friday, October 26, 2018. Born on February 28, 1927, in Hillsdale, MI, he was a son of the late David Elon and Helen Laura Burroughs Spotts. He held a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University and a Masters degree in Public Health from the University of Michigan. He was a veterinarian in the Hillsdale County area for 25 years. He met his wife, Marie-Therese Josephine (Mouth) Spotts, while stationed in France as a Lieutenant with the US Army Veterinary Corp. They were married in Metz, France in 1954 and spent a few years in Armada, MI before moving to the Spotts family farm in Hillsdale, MI where they raised their six children. Following his retirement from veterinary practice, Donald and Mimi moved to Melrose, FL and, subsequently, Columbia, SC to be nearer their children.
Donald was preceded in death earlier this year by his wife of 63 years, Marie-Therese. He is survived by his six children, Michael (Tammy) Spotts of Columbia, SC, Josette (Andres) Resto of Las Vegas, NV, Donald (Melissa) Spotts of Lexington, SC, Eric (Patricia) Spotts of Pocatello, ID, Nicole (David) Ringenberg of Bonita Springs, FL and Monique Spotts of Miami, FL; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Beaver of Bloomington, IN; and brother, Maynard Spotts of Columbus, OH.
