Obituary

Donnie R. Asbill, 80, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his beloved wife and daughter on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Born on August 31, 1944 to LeRoy Asbill and Annie Lois Lybrand Asbill, Donnie grew up in Ridge Spring, South Carolina, an avid nature enthusiast and talented high school athlete, he excelled in baseball and basketball. As an adult, Donnie continued to participate in community sports leagues and enjoyed following his favorite teams in multiple sports. In the 1980's, Donnie opened a baseball card/memorabilia shop in Aiken, South Carolina. An accountant and small business owner, Donnie had many interests outside of work, including amateur meteorology, trips to the mountains of North Carolina, studying road maps/atlases, and watching Jeopardy! and British mystery TV series with his daughter. His faith in Jesus Christ was unshakable, inspiring him to teach Sunday School for many years. In the final years of his life, he took great comfort from watching televised local church services, and the compassionate, dedicated care he received from his hospice care team.

Donnie and his wife, Marie Kneece Asbill, were married for sixty years. Surviving are his daughter, Ann-Marie Asbill of Columbia, three siblings, Edward Asbill (Jenna) of Greenwood, Jean Asbill Chow (Jim) of Columbia, and Lisa Asbill Riley (Mike) of Saluda; two sisters-in-law, Mae Fox of Batesburg, and Erline Smith of Hilton Head Island; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Annie Lois Asbill.

As an outgoing people person, Donnie preferred celebrating life and has requested no formal funeral service, but he can rest in the knowledge that he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him.

Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his,
And give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life:
Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Psalm 30:4-5
