Doris Jacob Beckham, 83, of Columbia, died Tuesday, December 11, 2018. Born July 15, 1935, in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Herbert W. Jacob and Connie Jordan Jacob, and the wife of the late Gemmelle R. Beckham.
She was of the Methodist faith and a supporter of the National Kidney Foundation. Doris was a kind, compassionate and caring lady. She became her husband's caregiver due to his kidney disease and later for her daughter, Bridget.
She was an extremely talented and creative lady; especially when it came to sewing. She was a great cook and poet.
Survivors include her three daughters, Judy Huggins Hornsby of Columbia, Patricia Huggins Barnett (Paul) of Columbia, Jennifer Beckham Johnson (Calvin) of Little River; son, Christopher Beckham (Noelle) of Irmo; eight grandchildren, Ken Hornsby, Ron Hornsby, Ryan Zitnick, Steven Zitnick, Zachary Beckham, Parker Beckham, Dillon Barnhardt and Nick Barnett; four great grandchildren; brothers, Allen and Eddie Jacob. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Gemmelle R. Beckham; daughter, Bridget Beckham Zitnick; sister, Sally Sanders; two brothers, Homer and Frankie Jacob.
The funeral service for Mrs. Beckham will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, December 15th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia. Burial will follow at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, December 14th from 5 until 7 o'clock at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
