Doris Mattox Laffey, 88, of Elgin, died peacefully Friday, March 16, 2018. Born in Richland County, SC, on January 31, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Alexander and Josephine Albert Mattox. Prior to her retirement she worked at Easter Seals. She was active at Killian Baptist Church, where she was a member for many years.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Yabsley; a son, Danny Laffey (Elaine); grandchildren, Missy Brown (Tim) and Erin Southerlin; great-grandchildren, Lindsay Brown, Michael Brown and Eli Jaco; brothers, Thomas Mattox (Sandra), Laverne Mattox (Anne), Kenneth Mattox (Sheila); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Donald Laffey; daughter, Pamela Southerlin; one sister, and six brothers.

The service for Mrs. Laffey will be held 2 o'clock, Tuesday, March 20th, at Killian Baptist Church, 577 Killian Road, Columbia. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
