Doris C. Smiley, 89, of Columbia, went home to be with her Savior Monday, June 11, 2012. A lifelong Columbia resident, Mrs. Smiley was a daughter of the late Mahlon Cook, Sr. and Zilla Bennett Cook. She served her Lord faithfully as a Sunday school teacher at Eau Claire Baptist Church for many years. Her delight was reading God's Word and her joy was caring for the family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Stan) Pathel; son, Frank Smiley, Jr.; grandchildren, Earl (Lynda) Pathel, Rena (Jay) Davis, Nelson Smiley; great grandchildren, Kendall, Crystal, Kenneth, Mary L., Shannon, and Brianna; sister, Betty (Frank) Price; brother, Don (Barbara) Cook and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Frank Smiley; brothers, Mahlon and Bennett Cook; sister, Jo Ann Price; and daughter-in-law, Ann Smiley.

The funeral service for Mrs. Smiley will be held 2 o'clock, Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Eau Claire Baptist Church, with The Rev. James A. Goudelock and The Rev. Tony Muniz officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
