Doris M. Strickland, 75, formerly of Columbia, SC, died Friday, April 2, 2021. Born February 10, 1946, in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Everett and Estelle Bryant Myers. In addition to her birth parents, she was preceded in death by her foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Crumpton; as well as her brothers, Andrew, Thomas, and Alvin Myers.
Mrs. Strickland attended Airport High School and was a 1967 graduate of Farrah's School of Beauty Culture. She was a devout Christian and a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mrs. Strickland was a longtime member of Blythewood Baptist Church, where she participated in countless church activities. She served in the children's nursery at Jackson Creek Baptist Church for many years. She loved to garden and was constantly working in her yard. In her spare time, Mrs. Strickland volunteered at the nurse's station at Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School while her children attended elementary school. She will be remembered as a Godly mother and wife by her family.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, J. Gary Strickland; children, Matthew and Victoria (Paul); granddaughter, Elizabeth; brother, John; sister-in-law, Thelma; best friends, Janice Davis, Joy Trojhan, and Peggy Rich; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The funeral service for Mrs. Strickland will be held 2 o'clock Wednesday, April 7th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC with Pastor Chris Burnette and Pastor Horast Trojan officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Cook family Cemetery, 6743B Satchel Ford Road, Columbia, SC.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Tuesday at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel.
