Doris Shealy Yates, 98, of Columbia, died Monday, September 7, 2020. Born March 25, 1922 in Lexington County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Charles S. Shealy and Lela Amick Shealy.

Doris attended Columbia High School and Columbia Business College. A devoted member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Yates enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was a secretary for Shenandoah Insurance for 30 years prior to retirement. Mrs. Yates was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and aunt. Upon becoming a grandmother, she cherished her grandsons; often considering them to be the greatest joy of her later life.

Survivors include her son, Dr. William M. Yates, III (Angela); grandsons, Madison, Hampton and Ford; along with numerous extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Yates, Jr.; three sisters; and four brothers.

The funeral service will be held 11 o'clock, Saturday, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, with The Rev. Jim Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will greet friends, prior to the service, beginning at 10:15 o'clock. Everyone is invited to attend but will be asked to abide by the state's recommendations of wearing masks and social distancing to provide a safe environment for all.
