Dorothy Pearl Bass, 94, of Ridgeway, went home to be with the Lord on April 13, 2014. Born in Athens, Georgia, on December 10, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Nathaniel A. and Emma L. Strickland Hubbard. Dorothy was a beautician and for many years ran her own shop in Blythewood and later in Winnsboro. She was a previous member of Aimwell Presbyterian Church for many years. A master gardener, Dorothy loved cooking and sewing as well.
Survivors include her children, Sarah Hilliard of Ridgeway, Charles "Butch" Bass (Glenda) of Blythewood, Lillian Smith of Columbia, Terry Bass of Winnsboro, Dot Rogers (Norman) and Barbara Marlow, all of Columbia, Dinah Hollenbeck of West Columbia; grandchildren, Becky (Ryan), Robert Ray (Jennifer), Debbie, Elizabeth (Mark), Kristy (Bubba), Stephanie, and Kim (Charlie); great grandchildren, Collin, Alex, Megan (Luke), Hailey, Lauren, Conner, Erica, Mark, Kaila, Kateleen; great-great-grandchild, Helana; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie E. Bass; and grandson, Darnell Hilliard.
A Celebration of Mrs. Bass's life will be held 2 o'clock, Friday, April 18th, at Winnsboro First Church of the Nazarene, 650 Ninth St, Winnsboro, with The Rev. Harry Varn officiating. Burial will follow at Aimwell Cemetery, Ridgeway, SC. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Thursday evening, at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Dr, Columbia.
