Dorothy B. Benton, 81, of Blythewood, died Friday, March 13, 2015. Born in Columbia on January 3, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Johnny and Virginia Law Hendrix. Dorothy was a retired postmaster from Batesburg-Leesville, and was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Rholon Starnes and husband, Allen, Jackie Britt and husband, Mikie, Sharon Rimer, and son; Corey Benton, all of Blythewood; daughter-in-law, Cindy Benton of West Columbia; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Benton; a son, Charles R. Benton, Jr.; a daughter, Karen Johnson, and grandson, Shaun Rimer.

A visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 18th at 2 pm at Sandy Level Baptist Church, 408 Blythewood Road, Blythewood, with The Rev. Chris Hanley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family suggest memorials be made to Cullen's Archangel Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 715, Lexington, SC 29071.
