Dorothy Whitworth Branham, 92, of Blythewood, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at her home. Born April 1, 1925 in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Sarah Winrow Whitworth. After serving in the Land Army in England, she moved to the United States after meeting her late husband of 49 years, Fletcher Blake Branham, Sr., a soldier in the US Army. Settling in Blythewood, Fletcher and Dorothy raised their two kids, Blake and June. Dorothy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served as a Sunday school teacher, a volunteer at the Bishop's Storehouse and was also a member of the Relief Society. She recently celebrated 30+ years at the Bishop's Storehouse.
Dorothy was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She was very proud of her family. Dorothy loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She would spend hours cooking and preparing for her company. Dorothy will always be known for her famous pound cakes, vanilla, lemon, chocolate and even pumpkin. Everyone was sure to get one as a Christmas gift.
She will be especially remembered for her witty sense of humor, spirit of adventure, and the tenaciousness that allowed her to become a sure spit fire. Dorothy will surely be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Survivors include her son, Fletcher Blake Branham, Jr. (Renee); four grandchildren, Brian Keith Casey, Kimberly Denise Brown (Chris), Michael Dewayne Casey (Christy), and Christopher Blake Branham (Laura); seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy is preceded in death by her siblings; and her daughter, June B. Painter.
The funeral service for Mrs. Branham will be held at 5 o'clock, Friday, October 27, 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Blythewood Ward, 1931 Centerville Road, Ridgeway. Burial will follow the service in Centerville Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 4 o'clock in the Relief Society Room at the church.
