Dorothy Weaver Clark, 88, of Columbia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 11, 2024. Born in Olanta, South Carolina on September 27, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Willie Judson Weaver and Adelaide Hewitt Weaver.
Although born in Olanta, Dorothy grew up in the Florence Darlington area and she graduated from Timmonsville High School, class of 1953. She later moved to Columbia where she began a career in banking at First Citizens Bank, beginning as a teller and then retiring in 1991 as a Vice President, Personnel Officer.
Dorothy was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Marshall Sunday School class. She enjoyed going to church and participating in bake sales, garage sales, and Wednesday night dinners.
Her greatest pleasure was being the grandmother of Grant Flynn Smith and Nana to 15 other grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was happiest holding babies and little children.
Surviving are her loving husband of 35 years, Clayton G. Clark; step-daughters, Karen Cardenelli, Kathleen M. Clark, and Linda Simmons (Jonathan); niece, Kimberly Thomas (Joseph), Atlanta, GA; niece, Juwan Crowley (Johnny), of Stuarts Draft, VA; and daughter-in-law, Anne Macon Smith, of Columbia.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dwight Hennison Smith; and three sisters, Betty J. Parnell, Willie Jean Martin and Lurleen Ballentine.
The funeral service for Mrs. Clark will be held at 2 o'clock, Tuesday, August 13th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 1 o'clock.
