Dorothy Louise "Dot" Goldson, 95, of West Columbia, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2018 at Laurel Crest Retirement Home. She was born on November 14, 1922, to the late Burnie Burgess and Annie Melvenia Bozard Goldson.
Dot led a very active life, travelling extensively throughout the United States and the world. A well-regarded cook and active bridge player, she particularly enjoyed spending time at the beach appreciating the natural world. As a Master Gardener, Dot was actively involved in the original planting of Riverbanks Botanical Garden and continued to be an active supporter in her retirement. Along with sewing and needlework, her most notable hobby was creating miniature houses, complete with handmade furniture, people and accessories.
Dot worked for 40 years at South Carolina National Bank, retiring as an officer of the bank in 1982. She was an active member of College Place United Methodist Church for more than 80 years.
In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her sister, Lennie Goldson Evett and brother-in-law, W.W. "Dutch" Evett; brothers, Burnie Burgess "B.B." Goldson Jr. and Danle H. "Dan" Goldson. She is survived by nephews, Jack Evett (Linda) of Harrisburg, NC, Patrick Goldson (Becky) of Missoula, MT, and Michael Goldson (Jean Spedden) of Charleston, SC; nieces, Bunny Evett Williams (Doug) of Chapin, SC, Meredith Goldson Fiore (Paul) of Gainesville, FL, and Helene Goldson of Columbia, SC; her godchildren, Sue Barnett Miles, Richard Miles, and Kelsey M. Robertson. Aunt Dot was loved by 13 grand nieces and nephews and 12 great-grand nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins and friends.
The service for Miss Goldson will be held at 2:30 o'clock on Saturday, March 10th at College Place United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mary Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:30 o'clock in the church parlor. Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, is assisting the family.
