Dorothy Haygood Dowd, 85, of Gilbert, formerly of Columbia, died Tuesday, August 12, 2014. Born January 12, 1929 in Winnsboro she was a daughter of the late Lonnie Rufus and Minnie Sharpe Haygood. She was a former member of Colonial Heights Baptist church and was a dedicated housewife and mother.

Survivors include her son, Larry T. (Nancy) Dowd of West Columbia; daughters, Vickie D. (Dale) Gossett of Gilbert, Susan D. (Phillip) Harmon of West Columbia, Karen D. (Ray) Ammarell of Irmo; grandchildren, Teddy (Margarita) Ullman of Panama City, FL, Becky (Dale) Smith, and Tommy (Beth) Dowd of Lexington, Jonathan (Hope) Gossett of Saluda, Jason (Tonya) Gossett of Lexington, Greg (Kayla) Harmon, and Heather (Scott) Flick of Lexington, Nicholas Harmon of Charlotte, NC, and Austin Ammarell of Irmo; sixteen great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dowd was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis E. Dowd; sisters, Margaret Looper, and Betty Haygood.

A graveside service will be held at 11 o'clock, Friday, August 15th at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, 2603 Two Notch Road. Memorials may be made to Tri-County Hospice, 166 Stoneridge Drive, Suite 100, Columbia, SC 29210.
