Dorothy Butler Fuller of Columbia died Saturday, April 2, 2016. Born and raised in Walterboro, SC, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fowler Butler. Mrs. Fuller was a graduate of Columbia College. She met the love of her life, Jack D. Fuller, at a showing of Gone with the Wind at the Ritz Theater in Columbia, when they were students, she at Columbia College and he at University of South Carolina. They married in July of 1944 after Mr. Fuller returned from the D-Day Invasion of Normandy. They lived in Columbia, where Mr. Fuller built a successful career in the theater business. They celebrated 51 loving years of marriage until his death in 1995. Mrs. Fuller was a devoted member of Shandon United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She also held memberships in the Larkspur Garden Club, Forest Lake Club, and The Quadrille Club. She loved gardening and had a particular fondness for tuberoses. She was a wonderful mother and role model, who loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally.
Survivors include her children, Patricia "Patti" Fuller Glenn (Jack) of Columbia, Jack D. Fuller, Jr, (Mary Vienna) of Blythewood, David B. Fuller (Elizabeth) of Columbia and Susan Fuller Lincoln (Mark) of Nashville; grandchildren, John W. Glenn III (Amy), Kathryn F. Glenn, MD, Lil F. Mason (Travis), Susan D. Fuller, Jacqueline A. Lincoln, Samuel H. Lincoln, and Ross D. Fuller; great grandchildren, Lucy Mills Mason and R. McClain Mason and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Graham and Martha Prewett.
The graveside service for Mrs. Fuller will be held at 3 o'clock, Tuesday, April 5th, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, with Dr. Michael L. Guffee, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to Shandon United Methodist Church, 3407 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205, Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community, 1 Still Hopes Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169, or to a charity of one's choice. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
