Cecile Dorothy "Dot" Meetze Harrell, 90, of Columbia, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, July 20, 2013. Born October 20, 1922 in Ballentine, SC. she was a daughter of the late Johnnie Wilbur Meetze and Eula Weed Meetze. She was a former employee of the South Carolina Comptroller General's Office and later retired from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy serving a total of 40 years with SC state government. She was a member of College Place United Methodist Church, and was an associate member of Salem United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Love Circle and Leisure Club at College Place United Methodist Church, was a member of The Woodman of the World, and was former President of American Legion Auxiliary Post # 7.
Survivors include her son, Joe Selvin (Edwina) Harrell Jr. of Blythewood; daughters, Carolyn Harrell (Ronnie) Bickley of Chapin, Louise Harrell (Bob) Michaelis of Lexington; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition her parents, Mrs. Harrell was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Joe Selvin Harrell, Sr.; sisters Lurleen Bouknight, Novis Davis, Vertae Epting; brother, John W. Meetze, Jr.
The funeral service for Mrs. Harrell will be held at 2 o'clock, Tuesday July 23rd at College Place United Methodist Church with The Reverend Tiffany Knowlin officiating. Interment will follow in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Ballentine, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock. Memorials may be made to College Place United Methodist Church, 4801 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC or to Salem United Methodist Church, 1321 Salem Church Road, Irmo, SC 29063.
