The funeral service for Dorothy Belle "Dot" Bachelor Jacobs, 86, will be held 1 o'clock, Monday, February 16, 2015, at Spring Valley Baptist Church, 91 Polo Rd, Columbia, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am until 12:45 pm in the downstairs atrium of the church prior to the service. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mrs. Jacobs died Friday, February 13, 2015. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late David Robert and Beulah Frick Bachelor. A graduate of Columbia High School, her first job was with Western Union in downtown Columbia. She also held other employment opportunities, including positions with Southern Bell, Borden Dairy Products, Pepsi Cola demonstrator, and substitute teacher. She had a true passion for music, specifically piano. She was a member of the "U.S. School of Musical Team". In her young life, she also served as pianist for the YWCA and many local churches. She taught piano in her home, and was choir director at Bayview Baptist Church for several years. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dot was a member of Spring Valley Baptist Church for many years.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Winifred Kendall "Charlie" Jacobs; sons, David Kendall Jacobs (Linda), Paul Allen Jacobs (Brenda); daughter, Deborah Ruth "Sissy" Smith (Pat); five grandchildren, Lisa Coley (Kelly), Michael Jacobs (Polly); Matt Jacobs, Adam Jacobs (Kim), Ashley Jacobs; two great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild, Alison Kim (Tony); two step-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law and seven sisters-in-law; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; "adopted" daughter, Ginger Price; and "adopted" son, Joe Fogle.
The family wishes to give a special thank you to Palmetto Health Hospice, Home Instead caregivers, and the Wildewood Downs Nursing Center staff for their special love and care provided to the family.
