Dorothy Brown "GumGum" Miller, 87, of Blythewood, died peacefully at home Thursday, February 25, 2016 under the care of hospice. Born in Blythewood on September 28, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Katie Hall Brown and Ed Brown. She was the Blythewood High School Class of 1944 valedictorian and was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church. Known as "GumGum" by her family and friends, she was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, and was an expert Scrabble player.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Lovett (Steve); sons, Frank Miller (Donna), Jim Miller (Tonya); grandchildren, Cheryl Barker (Gresham), Clint Miller, Travis Miller, Katie Lovett; great-granddaughters, Carson and Morgan Barker; great-grandson, Travis Miller; best friend, Connie Cunningham. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first born, Walter Stephen Miller; and two brothers.

A service will be held at 3 o'clock, Saturday, February 27th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext. Columbia with The Rev. Chris Hanley officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
