Mrs. Dorothy Rakyta Rusnak, 87, formerly of Columbia, died Friday, October 21, 2016, in Greenwood, Indiana. Born in Lyndora (Butler), Pennsylvania on December 9, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Anna Bobak Rakyta. Dorothy married Mr. John Rusnak on May 17, 1947, and they resided in Torrington, Connecticut for over 50 years.

After raising their children, Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper for the Cesco Steel Company. John and Dorothy enjoyed many winters in Lake Wales, Florida. Following retirement, John and Dorothy moved to Columbia to be nearer family. Most recently, she resided with her daughter in Indianapolis, IN. Dorothy was a faithful member of the Advent Christian Church in Torrington, CT, and the First Church of God in Columbia, SC. She incorporated music throughout her life as a pianist, organist and choir member.

Dorothy is survived by her family, The Rev. Richard J. Rusnak (Sandra), Philip Rusnak, Robert Rusnak, Dennis Stevens, Marlene Hewitt (Karl); grandchildren, Bret Rusnak (Brooke), Jamie Davis (Kaleb), Stacy Goff (Travis), Michelle Hewitt, Greg Hewitt (Rebecca), and John Rusnak; great-grandchildren, Owen, Hayden, Catherine, and Tyler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Rusnak; brothers, Samuel, Paul, and Ronald Rakyta; and adopted sister, Frances Cavalero.

A funeral for Mrs. Rusnak will be held at 11 o'clock, Friday, October 28th, at the First Church of God of Columbia, 2665 Covenant Rd., Columbia, with The Rev. Richard J. Rusnak officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the cemetery, following the service. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
