Dorothy Brooks Solomon, 95, of Columbia, died Friday, April 14, 2017. Born March 29, 1922 in Warsaw, NC, she was a daughter of the late Abraham and Mary Ellis Brooks. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, and was loved by everyone she met. She was an active member of Temple Emanuel in Greensboro, NC, and a talented pianist. Dorothy's ability to play and arrange music enriched the lives of those who heard her play.

Survivors include her daughter, Paula Karesh (Hyman); granddaughters, Abby Suss (Rob), Mary Silverberg (Jeff); great-grandchildren, Jacob, Benny, Grayson, and Adam; as well as several loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Marshall Solomon; a sister, Frances Brooks Stein; and brother, Sidney Paul Brooks.

A graveside service will be held 2 o'clock, Sunday, April 16th at Beth Shalom Arcadia Lakes Cemetery, with Rabbi Jonathan Case officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Memorials may be made to Temple Emanuel, 1129 Jefferson Road, Greensboro, NC 27410, to Beth Shalom Synagogue, 5827 North Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206, or to the charity of one's choice. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
