Dorothy "Jean" Allison Vinson, 86, of Columbia, died Thursday, October 12, 2017. Born May 14, 1931, in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late John Decatur Allison, Sr. and Alethea Campbell Allison, and married to the late William Patrick Vinson, Sr.

Jean enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and flowers. She was a caring mother, who enjoyed serving her church and was a charter member of Denny Terrace Baptist Church. A devoted wife (married over 50 years) and mother, she was also an award-winning cook.

Survivors include sons, William Patrick Vinson, Jr., and Timothy L. Vinson (Susan); grandchildren, Andrew and Alex Vinson; brother, Edward C. Allison, Sr. (Jo); sister-in-law, Sarah Allison, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert Allison Vinson and brother, John D. "Jack" Allison.

The service for Mrs. Vinson will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, October 14th, at Denny Terrace Baptist Church, 6324 Dorchester Street, Columbia, with Dr. Bill Jones officiating. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1 o'clock, at the church. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
