Dorothy "Dottie" Ann Boatwright of Columbia passed away on Saturday, September 10th, 2022. Born February 16, 1943, in Charleston, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Sadie Barton. Dottie was a long-time member of North Trenholm Baptist Church. She was engaged in many activities in the community; coaching girls' softball, leading troops of Girl Scouts, being a member of the Richland Two School Board, actively participating at North Trenholm Baptist, serving on the board at Shepherd's Center, and collaborating in South Carolina Writers Workshop, and volunteering at the Town and Harbison theaters.
Dottie is preceded in death by her sister, Jackie Brown. She is survived by her three children, Betsy MacDonald (Kevin) of Tampa, Sally Van Wright Johnson (CJ) of South Hadley MA, Scott Boatwright of Columbia; three grandchildren, Jessica Spivey (David), Chip Dyar, Jonathan Dyar; and three great-grandchildren, Victoria, Parker, and Peyton Spivey; brother, J.P. Barton (Janice); and sister, Jane (Phil) Martin.
A celebration of life service for Ms. Boatwright will be held at 3 o'clock, Saturday, September 17th at North Trenholm Baptist Church, 6515 N. Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206. The family will receive friends following the service. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel is assisting the family. At her request, honor Ms. Boatwright by wearing her favorite color yellow or "any color but black" to the service.
