Edith Seay Asmer, 83, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021. Born on January 15, 1938, in Winnsboro, SC. She was the daughter of the late Jacob Henry Seay and Pearl (Parker) Seay.
Edee grew up in Lexington, SC. It was in Lexington where she met the love of her life, Dr. Peter F. Asmer Sr.. They married in 1962 in Columbia, SC where they made their home . She attended the University of South Carolina and had a love for teaching dance and tap lessons. She was an avid Gamecock fan and loved watching football games with friends and family. Edee was a devout member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Columbia where she was an active member of the Women's Society. She was a gracious southern lady who's heart and home were always open to friends and family. She took great pride in making her home a place for all to gather for holidays and social events where everyone loved her cooking. Her Lebanese dishes were among the favorites of all who came to her home. Nothing brought her more joy and happiness than to see her children and grandchildren sitting around her table enjoying a big meal during holidays and other joyous occasions. Edee devoted her life to her husband, her family, her church and all of her many friends that became part of her now celebrated life.
Survivors include sons, Peter Fredrick Asmer Jr. (Camille), Paul Jude Asmer Sr. (Jill), Mark Christian Asmer Sr. (Niurka), and Michael Seay Asmer; grandchildren, Peter, Dabney, Jacob, Marlee, Jude, Priya, Mark, Nicolas; and sister, Beulah Mae Glover. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Peter F. Asmer Sr., sisters, Edna Oswald and Lillian Gibbs.
The funeral mass will be held at 11am on Friday November 5th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3512 Devine Street in Columbia. Immediately followed by the burial service at St. Peter's Cemetery located at 501 Elmwood Ave. in Columbia. The rosary will begin at 6pm on Thursday, November 4th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext. The family will receive friends following the rosary at visitation.
In honor of Edith, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
