Edna Maxine Rains Sims was born February 8, 1930 near Fort Lawn, South Carolina. Her adventurous life came to an end peacefully at Lexington Medical Center on March 9, 2014.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, William J. Sims, Sr.; two sons, David M. Sims, Sr. (Cynthia), William J. Sims, Jr. (Marjorie); and daughter, Bonnie; five precious grandchildren, David Michael, Jr., Daphne Anna, Don Maxwell, Carli Jo, and Jacob William; sister, Louise Herndon of Waycross, GA; two brothers, Ernest and Donald Rains of Aiken, SC; as well as numerous other relatives and dear friends all over the world.
After graduating from Aiken High School, she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on June 15, 1947. Edna and Bill were married on February 7, 1948. In 1956 they attended the Bible School of Gilead near Ithaca, NY, where they were trained as missionaries. For a number of years they worked as full time ministers before beginning a family and settling in Columbia. Edna was a member of the Broad River Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
A memorial service for Mrs. Sims will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1048 West Shady Grove Road, Irmo, SC 29063. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 1:15 p.m.
