Edward Nelson Laughlin, 79, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on October 8, 2026.
Born in Ashland, Pennsylvania, Ed served in the U.S. Army and later spent 30 years as a machinist at Westinghouse. He was a proud Freemason, a devoted reader, and a lifelong lover of history. He found great joy in camping and the outdoors, and he was known above all for his care for others.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria; his father, Edward; his mother, Mary; his stepfather, George; and his brother, John.
He is survived by his children, Seth (Jodie), Leigh, and Ellen (Simon); his grandchildren, Anastasia , Jaelen , Larissa, and Lilly; his great-grandchild, Karey; his siblings; and many other loved ones.
The memorial service to honor Mr. Edward's life will be held at 2 o'clock on Saturday, November, 21, 2026, at Shives Funeral Home, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext. Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock until 2 o'clock.
Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
