Edward Eugene "Eddie" Roberts, Sr., 79, of Columbia, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Born in Columbia on August 16, 1933, he was a son of the late Lonnie O. Roberts and Bessie B. Brown Roberts. As owner and operator of Eddie Roberts Auto service, Eddie built a reputation as an honest mechanic and fair business man. He retired from Richland County Public Works. A 32nd degree Mason, he was a member of the Blythewood Masonic Lodge, the York Rite, and the Jamil Shrine Temple. Eddie was a diehard Nascar and Gamecock fan.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Holmes; children, Michael (Sandy) Roberts of Gaston, Brenda Kodash of Gaston, Rosemarie (Tommy) Williams of Lexington, Elaine Matthews of Gaston, David Roberts of Gaston, Edward (Gina) Roberts of Lugoff, Lisa (Frank) Roberts Staszak of Lugoff, Penny Roberts of Blythewood, Edward "Oscar" (Karen) Roberts, Jr. of Lugoff, Stacey (Larry) Roberts, of Wagener; step-son, Jerry Holmes of Lexington; step-daughter, Julie (James) Whittington of Columbia; brother, Lonnie (Brenda) Roberts of Columbia; sisters, Ivory Angevine of Lugoff and Louise Richardson of Columbia; 29 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Stone.
The funeral service for Mr. Roberts will be held 1 o'clock, Friday, March 8th, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, with The Rev. Kenneth Walter officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens in Elgin. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock, Thursday evening, at the funeral home, 5202 Colonial Dr, Columbia.
