Rev. Edward Nunnery Taylor, Sr., 77, of Columbia, died Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Born April 28, 1936, on the family farm in Blythewood, he was a son of the late William and Thelma Howell Taylor. Rev. Taylor was a retired Southern Baptist minister, serving in several churches over his years of ministry, including South Beltline Baptist in Columbia, Mt. Pisgah Baptist in Jefferson, SC, Sardis Baptist in Swansea and Pine View Baptist in Blythewood. He was currently a member of Shandon Baptist Church. Following his retirement from the pulpit, Ed continued his ministry to others as a funeral director with Shives Funeral Home.
Survivors include his daughter, DeLinda T. Ridings of Columbia; son-in-law, Curtis J. Ridings of Columbia; daughter-in-law, Beth Taylor of Prosperity; brother, George Taylor of Columbia; grandchildren, Lauren Ridings of Columbia, Mason Taylor of Blacksburg, VA, Blaire Taylor of Prosperity, Victoria Ridings of Columbia, Philip Taylor of Prosperity and Caroline Ridings of Columbia; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his first wife of 37 years, Agnes Humphries Taylor; his second wife of 2 years, Betty Parker Taylor; his son, Rev. Eddie Taylor, Jr.; brothers, Frank, Pete, Dossell, and James Taylor; and sisters, Ola Mae Taylor and Myrtle Paschal.
The funeral service for Rev. Taylor will be held 3 o'clock, Friday, September 27th, at Shandon Baptist Church, 5250 Forest Dr, Columbia, with The Rev. Jerry Long and The Rev. Tommy Huddleston officiating. There will be a private burial service at the Old Sawney's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Nephews and Ed's fellow ministers are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the Gathering Place.
