Obituary

Eleanor Elizabeth Hollis Teague of West Columbia, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born September 28, 1933, in Columbia, SC and was a graduate of Dreher High School.

Eleanor was a devoted wife and mother. She was a homemaker and enjoyed her 19 years of service working with the bed babies at First Baptist Church. Her joy was to watch the televised First Baptist Church service every Sunday.

Eleanor was the beloved daughter of Jackson Davis Hollis and Edna Rutledge Mitchell Hollis. She was married to John David Teague, Sr., the love of her life for 63 years. She was the mother of sons, John David Teague, Jr. (Brenda) of Saluda, and James Chappell Teague (Tanya) of Greer; daughters, Martha Teague Looney, (Roy) of West Columbia, and Mary Eleanor Teague of Irmo, SC. She was a grandmother to four grandchildren; Theresa Teague Hubbard, Crystal Looney Williamson, Stacey Looney Campbell and Melissa Teague Heyde; a great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren; Trust Williamson, Shepherd Williamson, Walker Heyde, Hope Campbell and Megan Campbell. Eleanor is also survived by her sisters, Sara Jacquelyn Hollis McInnis and Virginia Ellen Hollis Wheeler (Lea).

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, David; her sister, Edna Ruth Hollis Harrell; her stepmother, Irene Hollis; and stepbrothers, J.D. Hollis, Jr. and Heyward Hollis.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the hospice nurses, especially Jill Lee and the caregivers, Marilyn Cruz and Jess Carrasco, for their compassionate care and support during Eleanor's final days. Everyone gave great care and comfort for her well-being. Our mother fought a valiant fight to the very end.

The family will receive friends at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia, SC at 2 o'clock, Monday, October 14th followed by a graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, SC at 3 o'clock, officiated by Chaplain Richard Coleman.
