Elizabeth Hodson Bennett, 91, of West Columbia, passed away on February 26, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Spring Lake, New Jersey, on December 25, 1923, she was the daughter of Thomas Sherwood Hodson and Irene Leas Hodson. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, James Lesesne Bennett. Their loving marriage has been a source of inspiration to others throughout their lives as they were always seen holding hands wherever they went.
Betty was an active member of Northside Baptist Church where she provided dedicated service in numerous capacities for 37 years. She was most recently a member of the Shepherd's Sunday School Class. Deeply devoted to serving others, Betty lived her life setting examples for her children and grandchildren by spreading kindness through many acts of service. Never once did she part company without asking others what she could do for them.
In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by her son, James L. Bennett Jr. (Rosann), of Maine; three daughters, Gayle Bennett, Sherene Cupstid, and Jannas Matthews (Lee) all of Columbia; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Sherwood Amos Bennett.
We find comfort in knowing that when she met her Lord today, she was greeted with, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 27th, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Extension, Columbia.
