Obituary

Elizabeth Lee (Betty) Tucker Floyd, passed away on January 13, 2025, embraced by the love of her cherished twin daughters. Born on February 23, 1943, in Warrenton, North Carolina, Betty grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1961. She graduated from Stratford College in Danville, Virginia, in 1963.
On October 17, 1987, Betty married her beloved husband, Birkett Lee Floyd, enjoyed a delightful respite in Charleston, then moved to Columbia, South Carolina, where she lived for more than 35 years. Betty embraced her community, becoming a vibrant member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, the Wisteria Garden Club, and the Trinity Cathedral Needlework Guild. Her kind spirit shone through her many years of volunteer work with Meals on Wheels. Betty was also a member of the Jamestowne Society and the First South Carolina Company.

Betty's life was enriched by her love for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Birkett Lee Floyd, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jackson Tucker, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Arden Tucker, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman W. Rodwell. Her legacy lives on through her loving daughters, Katherine Lee Marcus and her husband David in King, North Carolina, and Elizabeth Arden (Betsy) Pennington and her husband James in Birmingham, Alabama. Betty adored her grandchildren, Mary Arden Pennington, Katherine Sims Pennington, and David Allen Marcus III. She is also survived by her sister Katherine Tucker Nassor and her husband Edward of Fairfax, Virginia, who held a special place in Betty's heart.

A celebration of Betty's life will take place at 4 o'clock, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral on January 16th, followed by a reception in Satterlee Hall of the Church. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery will be private. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.

The family extends their deepest gratitude for the compassionate care of Dr. Charles Butler, Jr., Dr. Jonathan Botstein, and their teams, who helped add many happy years to Betty's life, and to Home Health Southeastern for their dedicated and loving care of Betty and her family.

Betty's warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
