Libby B. Mattox, 86, of Blythewood died on Sunday, December 3, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Jesse Lee Berry and Dessie Fulmer Berry. Libby was born on May 31, 1937 in Blythewood, SC.
Libby is survived by daughter, Josie Mattox Heilman of Blythewood; grandsons, Chris Heilman (Hannah) and their daughter Willow and Josh (Courtney) Heilman and their son Aiden all of Blythewood; brother, Steve (Toni) Berry of Blythewood; Scooter her little dog and best friend. She's also survived by brother and sister-in-law Kenneth (Sheila) Mattox and Tom Byrd of Blythewood; as well as special niece, Marie Berry of Blythewood, Mickey (Peggy) Craft of Blythewood; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Both Furman and Libby were patients of Dr. Fredric Smith whom they loved like family; May God bless him.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband of 58 years, Furman D. Mattox; sisters, Dorothy "June" Gantt and Faye Berry Byrd and brothers, Joseph Lee "JL" Berry and Harry G. Berry.
Libby was a co-owner of the family business B&W Lumber which closed in 2013. She was a lifelong member of Killian Baptist Church. She served on the Hostess Committee and other committees. She was also the only female who served on the Building Committee when the new church was being built.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 o'clock Saturday, December 9th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with the Rev. Dr. E. Benjamin Newman, Jr. and Rev. Richard Humphries officiating. Interment will follow in the Killian Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Friday evening at the funeral home.
