Elizabeth "Betty" Irene Rawls, 78, of Columbia, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Born in Columbia, South Carolina on September 25, 1939, Mrs. Rawls was a daughter of the late Leon Ross Driggers and Ruby Evelyn Wilson Driggers. Mrs. Rawls was affectionately named "Honey" by her grandchildren many years ago. As time progressed, her new nickname caught on and all her family and friends used it. She enjoyed making custom jewelry, traveling, and spending time tending to her flowers. Mrs. Rawls was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Dentsville Lodge 398 AFM. She also played an active role with the Richland County Sheriff's Office Project H.O.P.E. for many years.
Mrs. Rawls is survived by her husband of 53 years, Clinard Rawls; children, Edmond B. Rawls (Mary), Kenneth R. Rawls (Marty), and Audrey R. Sawyer (Dwight); grandchildren, Marrett, Alexander, and Lauren Rawls, as well as Preston and Dylan Sawyer; brothers, Ross Driggers and Larry Driggers; and sisters, Patricia Huckabee and Tina Witt. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rawls was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Ruff.
The funeral service for Mrs. Rawls will be held at 2 o'clock, Friday, April 27th, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 827 Wildwood Avenue, Columbia, SC with Rev. Jackie Utley officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 1 o'clock in the fellowship hall at Ascension Lutheran Church. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
