Lantana, Texas – Elnora Hodgin Burt, 95, of Lantana, TX, formerly of Columbia, died Tuesday, April 4, 2017. Born October 5, 1921 in Meridian, MS she was a daughter of the late Thad and Necie Lee Chatham Hodgin. She was a member of Elmwood Avenue Church of God, where she was a teacher of "Singles Again" Sunday School Class. Elnora worked for many years at Dodd's Dime Store. She was the matriarch of her family and was an inspiration to those who knew her. Elnora was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was always proud of her family's accomplishments.
Survivors include her son, Thad Newton "Chip" Burt (Julie) of Valdosta, GA; a daughter, Cerita Burt Loftis (Charles) of Lantana, TX; daughter-in-law, Margaret Burt of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Karla, Phil, Chris, Hannah, Andrew, Marissa; and great-grandchildren Zachary, Ethan, Alyssa, and Caroline. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram Louis Burt; a son, Richard Louis Burt; brother, Houston Hyatt Hodgin; and sister-in-law, Imogene Hodgin.
A graveside service will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, April 8th at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, 2603 Two Notch Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock, Friday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia.
