Elsie Virginia Jones Moore, 76, of Blythewood, died unexpectedly at home, Saturday, November 18, 2017. Born in Montgomery, Alabama, on August 6, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Claude W. Jones, Sr., and Margurite Virginia Tucker. Elsie spent her younger days in Montgomery, Alabama, where she was educated in the public schools. Elsie graduated from the nursing program at John Tyler Community College, in Chester, Virginia, before moving to South Carolina, where she retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections in 2002, as a registered nurse. An avid reader and sudoku puzzle player, she loved gardening, spending time with her pets and was always excited to find a good sale. Elsie was a member at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Ridgeway, SC.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, LTC Robert L. Moore, US Air Force (Ret.); her children, MSGT John K. Moore, USMC (Ret.) (Sandy), William P. "Perry" Moore (Melody), Rev. Richard Wayne Moore (Linda), Dr. Mary T. Moore Bivins (Drake), SFC Robert Michael Moore, US Army (Ret) (Malgorzata), Lisa Virginia Langston; grandchildren, Megan McGeorge (Josh), Cpl. Tucker Langston USMC, Hunter Moore, Hayden Moore, Michelle Moore, Jacklyn Moore, Ethan Bivins; a brother, Robert Jones (Becky); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Elsie is preceded in death by her grandchildren, Robert Perry Moore and Brandon Taylor Moore; and a brother, Claude W. Jones, Jr.
The funeral service for Mrs. Moore will be held 11'o'clock, Tuesday, November 21st, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will greet friends, prior to the service, beginning at 10 o'clock. A reception will follow the burial at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Parrish Hall.
