Obituary

Mrs. Emma Claire Carn Humphries, 88, went to be with The Lord on April 23, 2025. She was a resident of Wellmore of Lexington, Lexington, S.C. She was born on September 18, 1936, in Harleyville, S.C.

Mrs. Humphries was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, W. Kenneth (Ken) Humphries; her parents, C.P. and Emma Jane Wimberly Carn; her brother, Behling Carn; and her stepson, Warren Keith Humphries.

She is survived by her children, Sonya Weathers (Travis) Turner, of Lexington, S.C., Melba Weathers (Perry) Ross, of Lexington, S.C. and Ronald Allen (Carol) Weathers of Chapin, S.C.; grandchildren, Crystal Thomas (Wesley) Haltiwanger, Katherine Thomas Ramsey, James Allen (Staci) Weathers, Ashley Weathers (Michael) Skriba, Taylor Turner (Stanley) McCloy, Jarrett Turner, Ben & Tiffany Ross, Abby & Joshua Posey; and eleven great grandchildren.

Emma grew up on a farm in rural Orangeburg County where she attended Bowman High School and graduated from Barnwell High School in 1954. She received a degree in Interior Decorating from Savannah School of Interior Decorating and Design in 1978. Emma was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 40 years.

She enjoyed travelling with Ken. They also loved dancing and spending time together in Blowing Rock, NC. They were members of Northeast Presbyterian Church.

Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 pm and Graveside Service following at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Road, Columbia, SC. The service will be presided over by Pastor Eric Walter. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.

Serving as pallbearers will be James Allen Weathers, Jarrett Turner, Michael Skriba, Stanley McCloy, Jacob Ramsey, and Wes Haltiwanger.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the USC W.K. Humphries Family Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund, 1600 Hampton St., Suite 738 Columbia, SC 29208. Make checks payable to USC Educational Foundation, please include fund number B12591.
