Emma Rivera, 82, of Columbia, died Monday, June 18, 2018. Born on August 17, 1935, in Panama, she was a daughter of the late Adan Hidalgo and Isabel Elizondo. As a young woman, Emma enjoyed ball room dancing at various events. Emma spend 45 years as a cosmetologist before retiring from Belk Salon and Spa.

Survivors include her sister, Beatriz Hidalgo; seven nephews; five nieces; four great nephews; one special great nephew, Meyler (Tito) Aviles-Suira; and special caregivers, Todd and Kim Laird. In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Rivera-Torres.

A graveside service for Mrs. Rivera will be held 1 o'clock, Monday, June 25th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, with the Rev. Roger Smoak officiating. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
