Emogene Davis Barefoot, 88, of West Columbia, died on Saturday, September 23, 2012. Born on October 16, 1923, in Chesterfield, SC, she was a daughter to the late James Alfred and Mattie Davis.

A faithful member of First Baptist Church of Columbia and long time Sunday school teacher, Mrs. Barefoot also enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She was a fine southern cook, whose biscuits everyone will miss. Mrs. Barefoot was a graduate of business school and co-owner of Barefoot Appliance Company.

Survivors include her daughters, Lillian Barefoot-Webb (Joseph), Sylvia Bell (James); daughter-in-law, Sally Barefoot; sister, Lucille Dutton; numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Barefoot, Sr.; and sons, James L. Barefoot, Jr. and Ronald C. Barefoot.

A graveside service will be held at 11 o'clock, Tuesday, September 25th, at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Ave., Columbia, 29201. The family will greet friends following the service. Memorials may be made to an animal shelter of one's choice. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
