Rev. Ervin Laverne Register, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at the age of 87, in Eastover, SC. After several months of declining health, Ervin died peacefully with his beloved wife Beulah by his side.
Ervin was born in Florence, SC to the late Otis and Ida Mae Byrd Register. He served in the U.S. Army, then became a state trooper with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Ervin turned to ministry after graduating from the Institute at Bob Jones University in 1965 and filled a pastorate position shortly thereafter. For the balance of his life, he worked in both ministerial and public service positions until his illness prevented him from continuing. For those who knew him, it would be safe to say that his work was his true hobby and passion.
Ervin leaves behind his wife, Beulah D. Register; children, Chip (Karen), John (Lila), Mark (Alice), Rebekah Brown (Winslow); stepchildren, Deborah Lindler and Dale Loftis; 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene Shealy; mother of the children, Jean R. Dickens. He is predeceased by his brother, Allen; sisters, Marcel Riley, and son David. The family would also like to extend a Thank You to his caregiver, Penny Gregory.
A service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 5 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 4 o'clock. He will be transported to his final destination at Riverview Memorial Park Cemetery in Charleston, SC at a later time.
