Ethel H. Helms, 84, of Elgin, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016. Born October 29, 1931, in Swansea, SC, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Ila Chavis Hutto. A member of Edgewood Pentecostal Holiness Church, she was a devout Christian and loving mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Helms is survived by her sons, Danny Martin, Allen Martin (Cindy); daughters, Carlene Samat (Sam), Dale Brazell (Donald); 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; brothers, Rembert Hutto, Bobby Hutto; sister, Betty Tinsley; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four brothers and her former husband, Everett Charles Martin.

A service will be held 11 o'clock, Saturday, September 24th, at Edgewood Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1311 Victory Street, Columbia, with the Rev. Steve Sharpe and Rev. Alan Williams officiating. The burial will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Pelion. The family will receive friends Friday, from 6 until 8 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive.
